This is an entry-level position for someone who likes to push the “Of course we can do that!” envelope. As a software developer at SpeechGear, you will be working in a team environment to create instant language translation products for PDAs and PCs. You will be working with the development and Q/A teams to ensure that the resulting products form a complete solution for removing the language barrier. Help us design, implement and release the next generation of language translation products.

The ideal candidate will have at the minimum a Bachelor’s in Software Engineering or equivalent education and experience. Other desired capabilities include:

• Hands-on C/C++ knowledge and a well-rounded background in multiple technologies (e.g., Win32 development, C#, Java, HTML, and XML).
• Creativity, innovation and desire to create “that’s amazing” applications are a must.
• Desire to work with other bright and motivated people in a small, fast-paced environment.
• Ability to complete technically challenging projects quickly.
• Demonstrated capability to rapidly absorb new technologies.
• A smattering of experience over the entire software development process, including requirement gathering and analysis, design, version control, and testing methodologies.
• Personal/professional references substantiating historical performance and achievement.

• Experience using Microsoft .NET framework and scripting languages like Python/PERL
• Familiarity with software development processes and tools for managing and releasing software. selection of tools and technologies, release and version control, testing methodologies, and deployment management
• Experience in a software startup environment is a plus.
• Experience in development of speech-based applications (we do a lot of that around here).
• A smattering of knowledge of linguistics and/or foreign languages is desired, but not required.
• Able to regularly hit the “triple-twenty” in darts while discussing unit test improvements.
